Project Execution Level
(9 days of instruction spread over three months)
Participants will systematically execute a process improvement project through utilization of the A3 methodology. Upon completion of the project, participants will be able to submit their project for either a BEE Green Belt or BEE Black Belt when they meet the following criteria:
BEE Green Belt:
- Utilizes and demonstrates a good working knowledge of a minimum of 4 Total Quality Management (TQM) tools
- Executes a high impact project within a single department or process area
- Demonstrates project benefit to their organization
BEE Black Belt:
- Utilizes and demonstrates a good working knowledge of all 7 Total Quality Management (TQM) tools
- Executes a high impact project that meets a strategic objective and crosses multiple departments or process areas
- Demonstrates project benefit to their organization and annualized financial savings of $50k minimum
Defining the Problem
Introduction to A3 Thinking. Methods for developing problem or decision statements and determining scope.
Understanding the Current State
Tools and techniques for collecting the voice of the customer. Documentation of SIPOC diagram and data collection plan.
Visualizing the Ideal State
Application of Total Quality Management Concepts to determine ideal state. Application of decision analysis tools to determine target conditions.
Performing Root Cause Analysis
Practice using various root cause analysis tools and developing a causal tree.
Developing Solution Hypotheses
Participation in round-robin brainstorming activity. Overview of solution prioritization methods including nominal group technique, multiple-criteria decision analysis, and a cost-benefit matrix.
Overview and application of systematic design of experiments (DOE) method.
Overview of methods for results evaluation including common descriptive statistics, the productivity equation, financial analysis, SPC charts with a phase change, capability analysis, and techniques for summarizing qualitative preference data.
Implementing the Best Ideas
Review strategies for effective project management. Creating a project timeline and training plan for implementing successful experiments.
Institutionalizing the Change
Develop standard work and complete a risk analysis. Give a formal interim project presentation.

Excel and Google Sheets Basics
This course will provide participants with an understanding of how both Excel and Google Sheets are laid out and hands-on practice with basic functionality in each program. This is a great opportunity to compare and contrast the two programs.
Provide participants with basic exposure to both Excel and Google Sheets and hands-on practice performing the following tasks in each program: entering and organizing data, building equations and utilizing basic functions.
Excel and Google Sheets Charts
Prerequisite: Preferred completion of Excel and Google Sheet Basics.
This course will provide step-by-step instruction on how to organize various sets of data into meaningful charts and graphs.
Serving as a natural progression from Excel and Google Sheet Basics, the Excel and Google Sheet Charts course will dive in to hands-on learning and creation of charts, graphs, and intermediate data manipulation. “Repetition” is the motto for this course, as learning the content of this course requires practice and reinforcement through various, problem-solving, purpose-driven examples.
